so im kinda new to the whole planted aquarium scene. and i wanted some help, i want a completly carpeted aquarium(i hate the look of gravel and sand) and im using a eco complete, clay, and organic soil substrate(in that order from bottom up), so my question is do i need to cap the tank? because i dont see dwarf hairgrass growing to well, atleast not fully carpeted, if i cap the dirt with gravel

Wat u should have done is put the dirt first with the clay and then the Eco complete on top cus you don't have to cap it. Now ur only left with using gravel or sand for a cheap solution or buy another bag of Eco complete to cap it dirt or flourite but then again flourite looks like gravel and Eco complete looks like sand.

thanks for the input. ive actually decided to go this route.

(Starting from bottom)

Eco Complete

Organic soil mixed with small gravel (for anchor support)

Sand

i figured that sand would be the best for growing my carpet plants(mostly dwaft hair grass) because the plants can grow through and spread much closer togather with the small sand rather than the larger gravel. hopefully i will have a full carpet soon
