I have had numerous tanks for years, but I'm going to start my first planted tank.  Right now I just have the 10g tank and a filter.  I am most likely going to get eco-complete and excel.  I also am not quite sure which lighting to get because I want a SICK tank as far as 10g goes. I am thinking of the T5 HO for lighting...dont want to do dirt for first planted tank, but does anyone have any suggestions, ideas, or things I should change for the lighting, substrate, fert or anything else since I haven't bought them yet? Thanks!

Im a proponent for LED lighting.  you can use this 10 watt led set up

http://bit.ly/NBJxMB

Its good color temp, good lumens per watt (95L/watt)  and if you're doing low tech this one light at 16 bucks with no shipping cost, i think is a STEAL!!  I'm going to be buy 5 of these for my 50 gallon tank.  I cant wait!!

thanks dude! anyone else got any opinions?

got pics? im interested in how this turned out.

my other half wont let me spend that money  lol.  ill have to wait =(

I just recently got a new a lighting fixture for my ten gallon. i got a Solarmax HO system from Deep Blue. its a high output double T5 system. each bub is 18watts, one is 10000k and one is actinic (which you can swap out if you dont like the color), its 20'' long, perfect for a ten gallon.

ive only had it a few days and im getting new growth everywhere, my tank is dirted but i had a shitty led light which wasnt doing a thing for my plants.

it was 80$ which i found totally worth it.

which LED did you use? i was actually about to get an LED and hope its not the one that didn't work for you...

i dont remember the name or model of it but it was a clip on one that cost like 30$ at my lfs.

while it kept my plants alive, it did them no good, they did not grow and would have probably died in the long run.

ive heard the future of aquarium lighting is going  to be LED. but for now apparently you have to spend in the thousands of $$ to get a LED fixture that will work for a planted tank.
