I set my tank with sand and so on, my question is do females normally dig. Or is a non gender thing for them to do. I got one that claimed its cave but it keeps digging like crazy.

Firemouth cichlids dig pits for their fry. There's a possibility they may be bored to, as I've heard of platies swimming in the current nonstop, oscars burying filter pipes and heaters, etc.
