PH Levels Differ from tank to tank?
Ok everybody here is my problem.. I have one tank that has a PH of 6.8 and it has always been at 6.8 now I have another tank that has a PH of 7.4+... I cant figure it out I have drift wood in both the same rocks in both substrate is the same.. the only difference is the higher PH tank has a base layer of sand. does anyone have any ideas?

According to Wikipedia sand is defined as something smaller than gravel and larger than silt, but its composition is highly variable, depending on the local rock sources and conditions. It goes on to give an extensive, but far from complete, list of rocks and minerals that make up sand. Not all of these substances raise ph. Sand made of silica, for example, is inert and doesn't change PH.

silica can and will cause algae. Mostly brown algae.
