My 2 jewel cichlids had about 80 fry. I have them in a 45 gallon community tank. I want to keep as much fry as possible. my questions are
1) How do tell witch is the mom so she can be with her fry
2) Can the fry survive in a 10 gallon tank on their own
3) what's the best way to get the fry out of the tank (reminder there are lots of rocks and structure's in my tank so be realistic)
Thank you so much!

I think the fry should be able to do it on their own.
Separate the parents from them, they can eat them. Also, when my Jewel's bred, the male killed the female the next day, so watch for any bullying too.

I think that the Jewels would do well in a 10g with a heater, and some crushed flake food. That's my 2 cents.
I agree the fry will be fine on there own but i have never had a issue with the female and male not getting along in the same tank with the fry and my red jewels have had a few batches of fry like once ever other month
Oh and to get them out next time you do a water change suck them up with the vacuum because if you use a net most of the time they just go threw the net since they are so small unless you have a very fine net
yes I did thanks so much
okay well this is a little late. (my fault) but thank you so much!
Sadly I could only save 5 out of the 100+ :(
Will they still breed again?
Even if i took the fry out?
Thanks all!
Much love

They will they will be better parents too if you leave them in with the fry. I did this a few years ago and they were a pair from the store and the first spawn they had at the store they ate all the eggs before they hatched. When i got them (second spawn) they kept them alive till i gave them away they were very protective.

Yes they will still breed
okay just one more thing
I heard if you just keep the pair without any other fish that the male will kill/ beat up the female so you have to have other fish/ natural predator. Is this true???
or can i just leave them both in one tank
When taking the fry out leave both the parents or take the mom with her fry??
I have never separated the parents just the fry and never had a issue fry they should be ok as long as you have them in a separate tank where they have no protectors or a breeding net with really fine netting
even if you take all the fry?? i heard if you take all the fry out the parents get aggressive?
Thanks so much!
They should be fine they are all ready aggressive with other fish in the same tank but should not be with each other or the fry.
