For some who just use Clay pots to use as caves and hid spots. Here are some suggestions to make them
nice to your aquarium. This does work for glazed and non-glazed pots. This is good for cichlids and other fishes that like hiding spaces.
Things you need.
*Cutting
Portable Rotary Tool with cutting wheel (easy way), The tile attachment is just harder and can cause spider cracks.or
hand saw small teeth( long and hard way)
*Marking
Paper masking tape or non-toxic pen or market
*Soaking Container
-Use water of course
*Protective Glasses
- simple shop glasses, mask goggles, etc.
*Clay pots
-Whatever you like of ether glazed or unglazed. Unglazed is recommended.
Choice desireable size of claypot and HAVE A PLAN of where you want to put them at as well
as the sizes of your fishes. Using tape to mark the travel of cutting. Tape also helps prevent cracks, flying
depree, and easy on sight of travel. But using a marker to see what you want to cut is fine because the next phase is to soak it in plain water overnight. This is makes cutting easier and less brittle. plus less dust to worry when you cut it.
This tip is also good if you use want to cut the bottom instead. Better than using a tap and hammer and punching away. Good luck and be safe
Extra Tip, you can also wrap the claypot caves with moss mesh, Tree bark decor(be careful which ones),or even plants that can attach to it. Kinda like a Chi-pet. lol but you would need some groves on the claypot.

Here’s something you might useful , pvc . I coated mine in aquarium silcone and rolled them in the size gravel I was using . Pushed the pipe down slightly in the gravel . Cats and loaches liked it. No need to glue
pipe T’s , angles , elbows . cut a straight piece of pipe at an angle and it forms an overhead so they can come out and still feel secure. Good luck
