 Very good idea. MTS are a borrowing snail and they stir around the dirt under the gravel / sand preventing anaerobic gasses to collect. They come out of the substrate at night to reproduce and eat. Most snails eat poop, dead / dying leaves, and excess food. Alot of people associate snails with the demise of their aquariums, but snails are not a bad thing at all. Snails will actually help your aquarium out ALOT. The only way snails can be harmful to your plants, is if you have a small aquarium, the colony of snails was in the thousands. Snails much much prefer eating dead or dying leaves, because they are softer. You would need TONS of snails to take away all the extra food before they would start eating plants. 
Highly suggest adding snails.
