Currenty for my planted (newly dirted) I have a coralife PC ligh fixture with 2 6700K bulbs and 2 10000k bulbs. All bulbs are of need of being replaced been going strong for almost 2 years now.

But after reading all this T5 HO business it has me wondering if I should just get one of these fixtures rather than spending 100 dollars worth of new PC bulbs.

Any suggestions, tips or hints?

Greg,

I got a T5HO kit that was like 20.  I can post a video of me having a petstore guru walk me threw setting it up if your interested.

Here is my latest video I posted today:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bnsz2w_2Vg

Yes please. Cool video looks nice!

I'm not sure if my memory is gone, I stink at math or both.  This is what I got.  I have a custom hood with a piano style hinge.  Check out my profile and my images of the tank.  I put a thin board in and screwed the reflectors in place.  Very happy with it.

Cool! Thanks I will definitely look into that.
if you are going to buy a new fixture check aquatraders.com the've got a t5 2bulb for $60 and a 4bulb for $100. i think they have your bulbs for $70 total w/shipping. but just remember that with t5s you will have to replace the bulbs every year so you will spend $100 every year instead of every 2years for bulbs.

I went with catilina's t5 3 bulb. Thinking of running 2 bulbs and maybe all 3 for part of the day. I got one grow bulb and one 65k and 10k bulbs.

I heard some shady stuff on aquatraders albeit it was a couple years ago maybe they got better since. But I'm pumped.

Sorry I haven't posted the video.  Crazy week.  I'm posting it now.

Here is what I got at the store.  Good price and I'm very happy with it.

Great line. True too!

Thanks!  :-)
True.
You can get a very expensive retrofit kit with the waterproof icecap ends and all that, but unless your planning on spraying your light with water i don't see the need for them.  I think my T5HO ballast was around $20 online plus S&H.  It can run 2 54W bulbs, though I only have 39Ws going.  Also with the reflector.  A dirty little secret that I personally haven't tried, but if the testing numbers are honest, flat white paint on the inside of the fixture is a better reflector than any shiney aluminum.
