why do you need to rise the ph?

You can use baking soda as a buffer and to bring yours up. Baking soda ph is just under 7

how long does that last? Will it make the water cloudy? and how much to use for a 29g tank?

I have never need to use it but I would think it will last until something changes in the tank like decay which will lower your ph. not sure about the cloudy part I would think any that would occur will dissipate. How much is going to depend on where you are starting from. Get a gallon of tap water run an air stone over night check the ph and add teaspoon at a time until you hit the ph you want and multiply the amount by how many gallons you have in the tank. Remember gravel and other solid items take up space so the gallons will be les then 29.

API sells a product especially for this it says ph 7.0 it takes a little while so keep checking your water

adding crushed coral is a good way to go, it will buff up the hardness, even plain sea shells will do it. he calcium will dissolve and bring your ph up. i used coral from an old salt calcium reactor, water tuned alittle cloudy at first then cleared up
