Cool story.
Got off work today, went to buy some plants from the local pet store and then drove home. I start unbagging my plants and splitting them when I look in my 10g on my kitchen counter. It currently only houses 2 GBRs, one male and one female. I was watching them and wondering why the male was looking super dark in color and hovering in the same spot... Turns out the female laid a ton of eggs on my flat piece of driftwood in there and he was guarding them!
Thankfully they are the only thing in the tank (aside from one ghost shrimp... might have to remove it). My friend Don helped me and we figured out a way to put some sponge into the filter intake so it won't suck up any fry that may hatch. I'm not expecting anything to live out of this batch since it's their first, but it's possible. I'm soooo excited because I've heard it's so difficult to keep them when really it's not. They're in a simple dirted, planted 10g tank with a rinky dink filter that came with the 10g package. I bumped up the heater a bit to about 78, probably going to bump it up to 80-82 tomorrow.
They already look like amazing parents (I hear they are GREAT at caring for their fry)... I'll keep an update on them =) I imagine once the pair prove they can spawn, despite not being successful the first few times, they'll continue to spawn as long as the tank is comfortable for them.
