Guide To Acclimating New Fish

There are a couple ways to acclimate newly purchased fish. In this guide I will be describing the method where small amounts of water are added to the bag of new fish.

What you will need:
  1. Fish in bag from store
  2. 1/4 measuring cup
  3. A sink
  4. Small fish net

Step 1
Float fish the bag the store supplied you with for around 30 minutes. This gets the temperature of the water in the bag and the aquarium water to be the same.

Step 2
Go to your sink, untie the bag and dump about 1/3 of the water out. Be careful to not harm the fish or let them slide out of the bag.

Step 3
Put the bag of fish back in the tank then add 1/4 of a cup of aquarium water to the bag.

Step 4
Let the bag sit in the water for 15 minutes.

Repeat Step 3

Repeat Step 4

Repeat Step 3

Repeat Step 4

Step 5
Get your net and catch the fish in the bag, then put the fish from the net into the aquarium. Do not dump the bag water into the aquarium.

Side Notes:
  1. Feed your current fish before purchasing new fish
  2. Wash the measuring cup before you try cooking with it :)
