if u want carpeting plants do sand. if ur not going for carpeting plants do gravel. their is no the best. its wat ever works for the set up u want. if ur not doing dwarf tears or glosso or small plants like that u can do gravel but if u want small carpeting plants ur gonna need something the size of sand.

no i wont be doing those types of plants but will regular low light plants like anubias nano,java fern,jungle val, do good in sand or in gravel because i heard the plants get more oxygen in gravel and grow better and im going to lfs today so im trying to decide now thanks for any replies.

Well anubias and java fern dont need substrate so u can chose whatever jungle val grows in anything but probably spread easier in sand
