Anyone have suggestions on how to keep Red root floaters from being sucked into the filter? the filter i am using is a marineland bio filter fitted for tanks up to 50 gallon tanks but I use it for my 20 long.
The problem I am having is keeping my floating plants away from where the water is being filtered out (if that makes sense).

You can use a floating ring that disallows floaters from going into the ring. Similar to a feeding floating ring. it could be suction cupped to the glass and have the ring under the water that falls into the tank. This would prevent any floaters from being pushed under the surface.
Simply use foam and cut to size similar to the picture.
if its in a corner you can use fishing line attached to two suction cups to block off a triangle in the corner
