camallanus worms update and started treatment

Just got back from my weekend in NY and brought back levamisole HCL to treat the tank. Unfortunately when I got back there were more dead fish :( Anyways, I did about a 75% water change and added the levamisole. Hopefully I will start seeing some dead worms being expelled from the fish and I can save the rest of the fish. I will keep updating with the results of the treatment.

I'd be interested in the results. I've got a Discus that's eaten almost nothing in months. She's probably got some kind of infection but I'm not sure. The funny thing is she breeds and does everything else normally.

I HATE THE FRIKIN WORMS

I just finished the first treatment. My last angel finally passed all the worm hanging out of him. Unfortunately I lost lots of my red phantom tetras :( I think my school is down to 5. From what I have read, small fish are more likely to die then larger ones because they have a harder time passing the dead worms. I will be doing the treatment again in 3 weeks. Hopefully after that I will be worm free. I will post my results.

That's good news. My Discus passed a big thing of cloudy, white puss about a two weeks ago. Since then she's been slowly picking up her appetite. I'm guessing it was some kind of parasitic infection. Hopefully the re-introduction of food into her system doesn't reinvigorate the parasite. Fish have their own natural defenses but sometimes medicine is the only answer.

I picked up gill flukes from a local fish store about a year ago. I noticed all the fish in his store "flashing" their gills against rocks and stuff. Pretty soon I had it. The only way to get rid of it was through the use of Prazipro. (spelling?)

Where did you get your Levamisole?

I'm glad your Discus got better. I agree about their natural deffence system. Healthy fish and good water parameters are usually enough to ward off illness but sometime parasites find their way in, like the gill flukes.

I've came to the conclusion that these worms are the bed bugs of fish lol. You can clean as much as you want but it takes meds to get rid of them. Also more then one treatment to kill them at different life cyles.

I got the Levamisole from this website

http://www.inkmkr.com/Fish/

It arrived quickly and came with instructions. It also has his contact info and I think you can contact him for further help.

Thanks. I bookmarked it. Hopefully I'll never need him.
