The name is De'Shawn. I recently got into the fish hobby, about 2 months and so far I have a 10 gallon heavily planted, a 29 gallon with some ferns and a lot of fish, and a 55 that I won't set up until maybe january when I have more money and supplies.

I started with a 10 gallon and was going to just make it a glofish tank in my room for a little color to the room. Next thing I knew I had everything but glofish! haha funny how that works. to list them all and include the hardships I endured starting I will put the number start and the current.

4 painted tetra now 1

1 gold severum replaced with another 1

3 neon tetras going strong at 3

1 red wag platy still going

1 orange danio at least I think that is what it is

1 blood tetra looking more orange than red but still good

5 white clouds

1 yellow/black molly

1 sunburst gourami

1 albino cory

4 gold rams sadly one didn't make it so now 3

5 zebra danios to replace the ram seems fair right haha

1 large bamboo shrimp

1 ghost shrimp

2 cherry shrimp

2 blue snails

2 blue shrimp

So I guess it can be said that I started to learn a bit after losing enough fish and upgraded to a 29 gallon right before I got the white clouds. Everything above is in the order I bought them. The cherry and blue shrimp and snails are in my 10 gallon planted tank.

Once I had gotten the 29 gallon I once again toyed with the idea of making the 10g a glofish tank, but then I learned about aquascaping and it seemed more appealing, little did I know it was a lot more work! I'll make a separate blog about that.

Now the 55g appeared in my local pet shop about a week or two after I bought the 29g and I was kind of mad because it was $120 for the tank, stand, and hood with lights. Such an amazing deal and the ideal size, but it was too late I had already setup the 29g and 10g. But you can't just pass up that kind of deal so I bought it anyways and I will use it when I am ready.

Thanks for reading and don't be afraid to talk to me I could use the pointers as well as ideas!

The last time I paid for a tank was about 15 years ago. I get them for free (or very little) at garage sales. For lights all you have to do is screw a "daylight" 5000-7000 CFL into a $10 reflector and clamp it to the side of the aquarium. A big 30-40 watt CFL bulb will really help your plants.

Aquariums are an addiction. You start with one innocent 10 gallon tank and the next thing you know.... For your 55g tank, you might consider making an overflow, and filtering with a sump. I have been into aquariums for 50 years, and never thought of doing that until I watched a few DIY videos by uarajoey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DFk4bnIxEg I made a modified version of this overflow, and set up a sump filter. There is a mark on my forehead where I have been smacking myself for not doing this decades ago. The overflow and sump are a bit pricey to start with, and take a bit of forethought and work to design. However, in the long haul, it is cheaper to run than some of the proprietary back filters, because the filter media is a lot cheaper. Also, with a sump and overflow, the level of the tank never goes down. Evaporation just lowers the level in the sump, which is hidden under the tank. uarajoey has a whole series of videos, that are a bit verbose, but give excellent ideas and details about cool things to make for your hobby. I highly recommend them.

Oh, and if you really want to  drive yourself crazy, and end up bankrupt, watch this guys video about his fish room. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClfexhYa8Ws&feature=c4-overview-...

Joey's was the second channel I subscribed to right after Dustins! haha thanks for the insight I will definitely consider it. My other issue is space I can't put them all over the house like most of these hardcore fish people!

@R. Jango I actually did just use some screw in 6500k bulbs because it was cheaper then buying a t5 setup and it is working well so far

Pack that ten gallon with shrimp. Shrimp tanks are a lot cooler than they sound lol. I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my ten gallon.

Careful with the tetras though. They're a schooling fish and like to be in schools of at least 3 or 4 but more the merrier

Cories as well.

@Luke yeah thats mostly what I have in there but now I put the cory back and he is kicking up all the dirt and I'm tired of doing water changes

@Krystyna yeah but after I got the painted I did research and found out how they are colored and decided against getting more as far as the others I'm trying to get a couple more neons to make it 5 but the 3 do well and I might get on more cory and put in the planted tank
