I'm looking for a small algae-eater (pleco) for my small tank. Does anyone know of a species that is good with cleaning glass and doesn't get big. the smaller he better. I was told to go with a bristle nose pleco, but am wondering if anyone has a better suggestion? thanks!

I think the zebra pleco stays really small. But sorta expensive

True I used to have one they are awsome but the price has come way way up.  I read somewhere its because their natural stock has been decimated by development.

If ridding your tank of algae is the objective, let me tell you up front I've never heard of a fish that can do it - but they do help.

In my experience a small army of Ramshorns snails works best, but my Black Mollies ate a lot of algae too - more than my useless Oto.  The dilemma with (black only) Mollies is you need to feed them protein  to maintain their black color. This means you can't just steer them into eating algae. The American Flagfish is supposedly a major algae eater but I never had one; so I can't recommend them based on experience. Many fish, especially carps and livebearing toothcarps, pick at algae, but the Pleco was probably the best recommendation you'll get.
