So I had 1 otto in my 10g tank. He looked OK (as in no signs of disease) and he was pretty calm. My whole tank was in healthy conditions all the other fish were healthy, showing no signs of disease plus my tank is planted. So then i'll say a good 2 weeks after I set up my 10g he randomly stopped swimming and died... It was no big deal considering he was $1. I got him from PetSmart(I know bad place to get fish) but he was doing healthy the first week. Just need some advice thanks!

There are many factors to be considered here. How long has the tank been set up? Is there sufficient algae growth for the oto to feed on? If not did you offer him algae wafers or fresh green vegetable? Otos are also a social fish. They do best with a few friends of the same species.

Ive had this happen before, sometimes you just get bad fish, most otos ive bought died, they dont travel well, since they always are eating and when they are put in a bag and transported theres no algae to eat so they starve for a while, then they are put into a new tank and from them not eating they get very stressed, then the tank they are put in doesnt always have sufficiant algae to feed the amount thats put into the tank so they are all mostly week, ive bought 4 otos for my 20 long dirted so far only 1 is still alive, you said he was eating and seemed fine, so did the other 3 i had but they just died anyways

I've got my otos from petsmart, I still have all five. I've never seen them eat any of the wafers I feed to them, but the corys usually eat most of it though.
