Well, first of all. I dont really think that Javamoss is best suited for carpeting. The reason why?
Because the "leaves" (don't know how you call it in proper English) are to big and you have to trim it the whole time
But on the other hand it is a really nice plant and just like mattew said fish will realy like it..
I always leave the moss half-floating because its almost impossible to flatten it out properly, and when they start to really leave the ground I just press the moss a little in the sand again.
So its doable, but if you really emphasised this question on carpeting and not on the importance of the moss, I should pick another plant.
you can make a wall on the side of the tank but as for carpet...not so good.
they float around and it would be a mess
