How to dirt an established tank with plants?

I really think Im gonna convert my 20 gallon planted tank to a dirted tank. If any can provide me with steps on how to do it or post a link that woul tell me (I can't seem to find a site). That would be greatly appreciated. (:

Do u know if the dirt raises your nitrates? Also does it raise ammonia for a few days not that I'm worries because ny established filter will process. Also I am willing to keep my fish in a holding tank for a few days.

The only one I tried is miracle grow organic potting mix it has to be organic .... Don't use anything with fertilizer your fish will die :( ... I know for sure this one is safe
